The Smile Keepers program was established in 1993, originally known as Miles of Smiles. In 2000, the program moved under the administrative umbrella of the Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools Office to become a school-based dental disease prevention program. Included are dental screenings, fluoride varnish applications and dental education. All services are provided with parent approval. But, this successful, award-winning program was looking for a way to expand services for families who can’t afford their dental needs. (Pictured right, Erika Hagstrom Dossi and friend)
Designated Fund
This fund provides support to help with the dental needs of the underserved in Tuolumne County.
The fund established by Smile Keepers provides an opportunity for community-based support to directly benefit the program. The Smile Keepers Fund accepts charitable contributions from the community, including fundraising efforts undertaken by the program for matching grants received from the Sonora Area Foundation or other organizations. Having this fund at the Foundation also allows for estate planning gifts to be designated for the fund.
