In 2024, Sonora Area Foundation, in collaboration with our donors, issued a Grant to Tuolumne County Search and Rescue to purchase e-bikes. The bikes allow searchers to cover terrain quickly and quietly. The low noise compared to quads and dirt bikes aids in listening for shouts from other searchers as well as people they are searching for.
Thursday, that investment proved it’s worth. While many resources contributed to finding the lost resident, it was searchers on the e-bikes that reached him first. We’re so happy this story ended well.
Investments in our community do not always have immediate impact, but when they do, they can be life changing and life saving.
A message from Sheriff Vasquez, “Of note, the SAR members that found him were on the e-bikes the foundation sponsored last year. The equipment directly contributed to saving this man’s life! Thank you again for the support.”
Thank you to all who helped support this grant and enabled the successful search.
